The TSA will remove aiport body scanners that produced naked x-ray images of passengers because the production company, OSI Systems, could not write software for the scanners to make the images less revealing.

This will end the $5 million contract with OSI’s Rapiscan unit. Congress had given OSI a deadline to develope software to produce more generic images of the passengers, but the scanner company said they could not meet the deadline. TSA will remove the remaining 174 machines from the busier U.S. airports, with the company absorbing the cost for removal.

What do you think about naked x-ray scanners? Were they an infringement on your privacy or necessary cost for safe flying? Leave your comments below.
